A week of suitcases...
Hello everybody, and welcome back to my weekly newsletter!
This week has been crazy! In one week I’ve said goodbye to my best friend, who came to stay with us for a week, and those few days of thrifting, hiking, exploring, and A LOT of talking, have gone by way too fast! This week I’ve also started a new job and you’ll probably be reading this newsletter while I’m flying to the United States for my sister’s wedding!! In these chaotic days I admit I haven’t got the time to think much about knitting and I almost forgot to write this newsletter! So, I’m here sitting at my desk at 1.45 am, the day before travelling across the world, but honestly super happy to be writing this because I do enjoy it!!
What I’m Currently Knitting
My plan of knitting the Easy Wrapped Cardigan by easy as knit in time for the wedding didn’t really work out. Not really because I had too little time, but actually because it’s going to be way to warm for this cardi! I thought that travelling to Northern New York State in September would have meant colder temperatures than in the Netherlands, but I was very wrong! We should have steady 30°C for a couple of days, and honestly I’m looking forward to these late summer days. So I decided to put the WIP temporarily aside to focus on other priorities. But I did take some pictures for you and I’ll only have to knit one sleeve and 1/3 when I’m back to finish this piece in time for colder days!
New Video on YouTube
This coming week you’ll also get a new video on my YouTube channel! I put together a nice compilation of amazing designs, perfect for autumn. I don’t want to spoiler too much, so, if you’d like to be the first one to know when the video is out, please subscribe to my channel ;)
Bookclub News
A new month has started, and that means that the ‘Knitting, Fashion, and Sustainability Bookclub’ is entering its second month! This September we’re diving into the topic of sustainable fashion, tackling a book that is a perfect introduction to everything that is wrong with the fashion industry. The book is To Die For by Lucy Siegle. It is a bit of an older book, as it was published in 2009, but it still is one of the best books on this topic. I can’t wait to start reading it on the plane!! If you’re interested in joining the bookclub, our virtual door is always open! Simply fill out this form here, where you can also find all necessary information.
Destash Accountability
Hi, I’m Camilla, and this week I bought yarn!! I was absolutely too tempted by the new Natural Sock yarn by Studio Solas (70% wool and 30% tencel) and I bought 1 hank of this gorgeous yarn naturally handdyed by Vera. I apologise for not having taken a nice picture of it, but now it’s dark outside and this poor lighting would be too disrespectful of the amazing shades of colour Vera creates with just leaves, flowers, and roots. Of course, I haven’t finished any WIP, so this week I’m getting even further from net zero.
IN: 100g!

Obsession of the week (a.k.a. my weekly source of procrastination)
It has been a week of unpacking memories and packing suitcases. I’ve hugged my best friend after two years that life had kept us phisically apart. It felt like not a single week had passed since the last time we hang out together, but at the same time I realised our friendship has inevitably changed since the time we were living 5 minutes apart and seeing each other every single day. This realisation kinda scares me, but I know it’s just fear of the unknown and of change. I need to embrace this change and make the best of a great friendship, no matter how it will evolve in the future.
But it has also been a week of packing: I’m taking a plane for the first time in more than 3 years. the last time I flew, I came to visit my boyfriend in the Netherlands for Valentine’s Day. It was February 2020. One week later I was officially stuck on the other side of Europe. Since I started travelling again post-lockdowns, I’ve only travelled by train or bus, trying to have a smaller carbon footprint on the planet. This time I’m crossing the ocean, so I couldn’t take either a train or a bus. So I’m pretty excited, as if I was flying for the first time. It’s still crazy to me that I’m flying so little, being someone that in the past kept jumping on planes, for work, for study, for keeping up a long-distance relationship. This trip is also special because I’m going to be a bridesmaid for my little sister’s wedding. The woman I call my sister is actually my ‘American sister’, part of the amazing family that 12 years ago hosted me for a year as an exchange student when I was only 17. I can’t believe it’s been so long ago already and I can’t wait to be back in those places that used to feel so familiar.
Thank you so much for joining me this week. If you haven’t done it yet, please subscribe to not miss any future update!
